Child
Therapy
Children are inherently more embodied than adults and are often great teachers when reconnecting with ourselves. When hardship, trauma, or misfortune have occurred however, children and parents may need more support in regulating difficult and complex emotions. I’ve worked with children as young as 4 years old to teens and they have been great teachers. Whether it’s tantrums, trauma, anxiety, or sadness, children are simply more resilient than adults due to neuroplasticity. The key comes in supporting the family and assisting children understand how to regulate their emotions internally and when to seek support from others.
Individual
Counseling
Healing through the body is inherently about learning to slow down and hearing what it’s been trying to communicate. It’s what the latest research has been validating recently but older cultures have known for awhile. This can be overwhelming for some so a slow and gradual pace is best. Studies are clear that developing greater internal awareness and learning to honor your needs, assert healthy boundaries, and process trauma can bring us back into social engagement and life.
Group
Therapy
I have been running men’s groups for the South Asian and Latino community, but my start was boys and girls groups at school sites. It’s been an honor to support the unique needs of these different population. The groups revolve around addressing patriarchy, internalized racism, and envisioning new forms of masculinity that do no harm but take no guff. Obviously, the children’s groups were a little different.
